Greetings Families and Friends of Jouett Elementary,

It is almost that exciting time of year where we welcome back our Trailblazers to Jouett Elementary! I, along with our talented staff, will sustain the “Pride in Excellence” tradition established at Jouett Elementary by continuing to build strong relationships with students, stakeholders, and community partners. Growing the whole child, whether that be academically, emotionally, or socially is an integral part of our success.

At Jouett we will focus on cultivating lifelong learners through exposure to highly developed curriculum while making learning experiences relevant and meaningful. As a school, our goal is to always be forward thinking, cutting edge, and innovative. Some examples to highlight this progressive thinking is evidenced through our implementation of an elementary band, where students in 5th grade will have an opportunity to explore the musical arts. Additionally, all Trailblazers will participate in STEAM class for an hour weekly to develop essential skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and communication, which are necessary to compete in our global economy. Furthermore, Jouett Elementary will expand our Lego Team in an effort to expose students to coding, technology, and healthy competition. Moreover, Jouett will be embarking on a new journey this year through our Trailblazer Tribes. Students will be assigned a tribe that focuses on a character trait while building relationships through socio-emotional learning across all grade levels.  Lastly, Jouett Elementary will raise and release bluegill fish in an effort to educate students on our local habitats through project based-learning. The Bluegill Fish in the Classroom is a cross-curricular program that will teach students about cause and effect, while strengthening math concepts, and enhancing technology skills.

As we move to the 2018 – 2019 school year we will continue to advance our motto, “Be Legendary”! Jouett students will continuously be empowered to take risks, have ownership in their learning, be inspired to think critically, and have opportunities to serve and lead.

As your principal, please know that my door is always open and I welcome your input. If you are new to the area, we invite you to schedule a visit and see why Jouett is truly LEGENDARY! I am looking forward to making this school year the best one yet!

Dear Jouett Families and Friends,

My name is Heather Spaid and I am so thrilled to be a Jouett Trailblazer! MMs. Spaidore importantly, I am delighted to be working with all of you. I have heard such marvelous things about the faculty, staff, students, and parents at Jouett Elementary School. It is going to be a wonderful year full of learning, new adventures, and success stories. I feel extremely blessed and honored to be on this journey with you all.

I acquired the majority of my K-12 education in Fluvanna County. I graduated in 1996 and headed to Radford University where I earned two bachelor's degrees in Elementary Education and English. I have been an elementary classroom teacher for 12 years. My first teaching position was at Trevilians Elementary School; so coming back to Louisa County feels like coming home. In 2010, I took two years off from teaching to earn a master's degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.

My hobbies include reading, spending time with family and friends, taking care of my cocker spaniel, Haley, and having play dates with my nephew, Caleb and my niece, Chloe. I am eagerly looking forward to serving Jouett Elementary and the Louisa County community.
